  • MOS-1 Power supply caps replace.

Hello, in the MOS-1 ALLEN Organ power supply i find 1 cap with 2500uF/ 50V. (in the power supply ( 27 V section) worked with the MOS-1 computer board .) Can i replace this cap with : 3x 1000 uF / 63V (in parallel connection);, or is this new capacity to high for the power supply, the MOS-1 computer board? Thanks and regards Chris.

I don't know anything about Allens. But this should be within design spec tolerance, as a general rule.

Rule of thumb is that it is alright to substitute capacitors with higher capacitance and/or voltage ratings, so I don't see a problem.

Agreed, higher is OK, lower never.

Too much higher voltage rating is a bad thing with electrolytics. But I don't think 63 vs 50 is too much. Too much capacitance can strain the rectifier and power transformer, on startup. But 3000 vs 2500 shouldn't be a problem.
