  • Help Identifying this Allen Organ

It's unfortunate when a beloved instruments owner passes that, nobody knows anything about the instrument that their mom, dad, grandmother etc loved to play. I have 2 pictures from the current owners and a promise to try to find the model number. In any case, can anyone identify from the photos? They are asking $2,700 which I think might be high for this one. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

I saw that same organ online! I agree the price is high. I don't know whether the camera that was used to take the picture is fooling me or not, but the keyboards look like they are kind of "warped" on the frontal view of the organ console. It is probably just the way the camera was though. I hope it goes to a great home and works as it should. They are good instruments!

      Stephen,

It is the camera. For close-up photos using wide-angle, it helps if one has an aspherical lens. Otherwise, straight lines in the picture will appear curved in a symmetrical manner.

      Hope that helps.

    Rick,

The organ is possibly an Allen 225-C. The 225 is an MOS-2, which is still old, but better than an earlier MOS-1. If it is a 225, it was made somewhere around 1983. The C-style console simply stands for Contemporary console.

To gain access to the Model Number and Serial Number plate, there are 2 screws underneath either end of the keyboard desk. Once those screws have been removed, you should be able to lift the top of the organ. The plate should be located near the hinge on the back rail. Someone else may correct me on this because I've never personally seen a model plate on a contemporary console.

A more realistic price is probably anything up to $500, which is where I would place the maximum value. The organ has the card reader, and if they have all ±400 tone cards, that may add interest to the buyer. I hope this information is helpful to you.

Way too many organs to list, but I do have 5 Allens:
    • MOS-2 Model 505-B / ADC-4300-DK / ADC-5400 / ADC-6000 (Symphony) / ADC-8000DKC
    • Lowrey Heritage (DSO-1)
    • 11 Pump Organs, 1 Pipe Organ & 7 Pianos

      Michael,
Oh okay, that's good. I suspected it was the camera, but wasn't sure.
      That clears that up, anyway.

It is a Model 125 MOS-2 because of the console speakers, the number of pistons, and Card Reader on the left side. 225 had external speakers only.

          Organkeys Jones,

Thanks for the correction & clarification. The giveaway for me were the six pistons below the Swell above the Cancel button. The 125 and 225 IIRC are some of the only models that had them.

Thanks to one and all. I appreciate the information. I downloaded the pdf list of Allen model numbers which is very helpful in determining age and technology. The problem is most sellers that aren't dealers, rarely bother to find and give the model number!

        Exasperating!

Thanks again for your kind replies.
