Maybe there has been a thread on this before and I just can't find it but what is the description of the console styles "B" "C" "D"? I have an MDS 71s and would like to know what style it is. I would also like to know what the letter "U" means in the lower righthand corner of my console controller.

Rody,
Check this link:If you have a photograph of your console, we would recognize it and be able to identify it for you. My best guess is that if it is a stoptab version, it is probably a D-Console. If it is a drawknob version, it is definitely a C-Console. Since the 71s is one of the largest 3-manual organs of that series, my guess is that is probably a C-Console.
Hope that helps.
MichaelWay too many organs to list, but I do have 5 Allens:- MOS-2 Model 505-B / ADC-4300-DK / ADC-5400 / ADC-6000 (Symphony) / ADC-8000DKC

The letter "U" on the console controller screen indicates that the MIDI is configured in the "user" mode. You'll have to read up on the console controller functions to understand the significance of that. I has to do with the way the pistons are encoded in the MIDI output stream, I believe. I seem to recall that late production MDS models were shipped with the User mode enabled so that the pistons could address the higher number presets in the Expander module.John

B was a medium sized console for a single row of stop tabs, the side panels were angled downward, so it impossible to have drawknob jambs. Depth is about 33 inches.
D is a large size console used for drawknobs with squared end panels so jambs can be installed; also used for 2 rows of stop tabs. Depth is a hair under 36 inches.
C is an oversized console--extra wide, extra deep; is about 42 inches deep.
The B and D consoles are discontinued. C might be as well. With the later MDS models, Allen started using consoles based on the T series consoles which were originally brought out with the MADC models (like the 2100 and 3100, etc.). It was morphed into the M console (lid moved to cover the end panels, additional height. Now most of the standard consoles are based on this console or variations of it. I suspect the 71S is late enough to be the M console or a slightly bigger version of it.
