  • Advice on old Rodgers organ for home practice

Hi. I am very new here, but have enjoyed reading many of the expert posts! I've looked at several organs for home practice. Currently have access to a Rodgers 705B with midi. Supposedly works well as is and also with Hauptwerks. Anyone have experience with these organs? Can this model still be maintained by a professional technician, and are parts still available? I previously looked at a 535, but after reading this forum, decided the price the seller wanted was too high for that model. I'm wondering if the 705B would be a good starter practice organ for home, and if it really does work with Hauptwerks, that could be used to make the sound, eh, a bit more appealing. Thoughts? Suggestions? Things I should know? Thanks!

Any organ that you can get for your home is a good home organ (as long as it works, of course)! And with Hauptwerk it could be a very nice practice organ!

The 705B was among the last models of analog Rodgers organs. Though its a small model, it's pretty nice for a unit organ. It uses mostly generic components that are still available, so service is quite possible. The exception is for things related to the microprocessor, like the memory IC's, but those tend to be quite reliable. It has some nice features and should work well for you.
