  • Rodgers 580 woodwork

Can anyone share info as to how to go about rebuilding the woodwork for the Rodgers 580 organ? The box is severely damaged by termites that infected our church.

Definitely not an easy job. You would have to disassemble the console, isolate the damaged wood, replace it with new, similar wood, and then probably refinish the whole console so that it all matches. In Mexico they have restored organs with termite damage, but it usually consists of replacing the damaged components with new replicas.

If after refinishing, it is returning to the same environment, you can consider treating the wood to prevent recurrence, or using different wood from a resistant species.

I don't know where you are, and depending on what a 580 looks like,( picture?) there are some standard features to a Rodgers console case. Have you thought of searching for a used case from a defunct Rodgers? (Of course I could be all wet for this idea)
