• Thinking about purchasing a Rodgers 700.....can anyone help?

To replace my old TC 6 that I had to give up when we moved to a new house I have located a Rodgers 700 for sale near my new house.

All I know about the organ is that it has a practice panel and it looks like the cabinet is in good shape.

The present owner is asking $1700 and claims to have paid $2300 several years ago. I figured it would cost another $350-400 to move it to my new house.

What is the instrument like and does it have midi?

How is the tone generated and what type of amplifiers does it have? Is this Rodgers a digital organ?

My old TC 6 could pretend to be a theater organ with all the vibratos going. Does this organ have this dual personality??

    Thanks for any responses........

The 700 is a basic analog instrument from around the late 70s/early 80s. Stoptab 2m AGO console, with internal speakers and simple blind presets if I recall correctly. Single main set of oscillators with just a 2nd celeste set, so the ensemble is limited, but can sound quite good with external speakers and some audio processing. Decent practice organ, but the price is too high unless it includes a sizable set of external amps and speakers; $500-$1000 depending on condition is more realistic.

I concur with twnelson. I have photos of the instrument, if you wish to receive them, but they're not terribly great quality. The stops do move--just not when you use the pistons.

        Hope this helps.

The owner of this organ went back to NJ to handle some family business and vote and will not return until after Nov 10 so I have someto check around for other organs.

I owned a Rodgers 700 in the early 80's and it is now serving in a local church. It has only one set of generators, but does have the iron core voicing pots to voice the trumpet rank, which is a plus on the analog instruments. It does not, however, have any provision for celeste stops. It does have settable pistons, but they are blind -- stops don't move, except when you move them by hand. Not much flexibilty in voicing other than pots for main, flute and reed. Doesn't have air sound, but does have internal control for the amount of chiff, or "air puff", as Rodgers termed it then. It also has a nice wooden roll top.

I owned a Rodgers 700 in the early 80's and it now serves in a local church. It has only one set of generators - no celeste stop. It does have ferrite core voicing pots for note by note voicing of the Trumpet rank -- a real plus in the analog instruments. Additional voicing flexibility is minimal, however, with only volume pots for main, flute, and reed. Basically a straight classical design, but does have a full flute trem. Internal adjustment for the amount of chiff, or "air puff" as Rodgers called it then. Has 2-channel output to internal speakers.

A lot depends on the specific 700 model. The 700A has no reeds. The 700B has at least some reeds on all three manuals, as well as a Gamba Celeste II on the GT.
