  • Allen Smart Recorder Question

I just had hand surgery and my whole arm is in a cast. Before, I recorded 6 Sundays worth of preludes and postludes on the church's Allen Smart Recorder. I knew it used standard MIDI files, so if I made a mistake I figured I would just go home and throw it into Cubase and fix it. Problem was, when I did this Cubase did something to it that made the Smart Recorder flip out (measures flew by on the counter and no notes were played). I was stuck using the original flawed performance.

Anyone know how to edit Smart Recorder files in a sequencer or otherwise?

Have you tried anthing other than Cubase? NoteWorthy Composer (http://www.noteworthysoftware.com/composer/evaluate.htm) which is free for 30 days, although it is not strictly a sequencer, can import MIDI files and export MIDI files, and, in its native format, can easily edit files. Since it is a free trial download (and it only costs about $40 USD to buy) it might be worth it to try it. I like it especially as it works in easily-learned musical notation mode. Direct input from a MIDI keyboard or organ is also supported.

    Good luck.

I DL'ed it. Will try it tomorrow. Is it strictly music notation? If so, it won't do too much for me. . . .

I believe all the MIDI controls can be sent from NoteWorthy (swell shades, multi point controllers, program changes, bank select, and the rest).

But do you do it from a notation window or a piano scroll window? Notation won't help me as I wasn't playing to a click so nothing will appear correct rhythmically.
