I am as green as they get. I have been a fan of pipe organs for years. I can read music andplay some piano, andmy grandmother played the organ very well. I have an overwhelming desire to play the organ, but I want to play on something that has the most realistic sound. I am currently looking at an Allen 683. do you know the sound quality, year of build and whether or not it can be converted to run Hauptwerk software?

Welcome to the Forum. The 683 is probably an MOS-I organ (one of Allen's first digial instruments). The resource I have lists it as a 1978 instrument.

With its present computers it would be difficult to convert the instrument to MIDI, though possible for MIDI out only (adaptors required). Many would gut the console and go from there to create an Haupwerk instrument.

Do a search on this forum for the work Hauptwerk, and/or MIDI, and you'll be surprised at how much information you can find. Good luck on your continued search for a 3-manual instrument.

Way too many organs to list, but I do have 5 Allens:
