  • Crumar Mojo 61 - external drawbar control?

I'm considering the single manual Crumar Mojo 61 as the basis for a full dual manual plus 25 note pedal set-up. I'd prefer the single to the full dual manual for two reasons - invest less $ upfront while I figure out if this really will meet my needs, and the portability of a single manual. I like that it is compact (no reverse color octave presets). The Mojo 61 is ~ $1500, and I can use one of my old keyboards as the lower manual while I test this approach. I have a 25 note pedalboard from a Yamaha Electone that I plan to MIDI-fy.

The Legend Live is another consideration (and has 2x9 drawbars, plus 2 pedal drawbars), though I think maybe the fact that the Crumar is VB3 based, that it might be more "future proof"?

My real question is (as the title says): Can I buy/make some extra drawbar controllers, and map these to control the upper/lower A/B drawbars of the VB3 in the Crumar? I really would like a full 2x9 upper/lower and 2 pedal drawbars. I've seen some drawbar sets parted out on ebay, and I think I may be able to MIDI-fy them myself.

FYI: this is kind of related to my earlier thread ( http://www.organforum.com/forums/sho...ayers-Thoughts ). That's not going to happen any time soon, if at all, so this is a sort of approach to that end. And if I do come up with a full drawbar control, I guess I could go fully modular with VB3 on a laptop (or HX3), and a couple 61 keyboard controllers?

Also - should this be posted in the Hammond forum (as a clone), or the MIDI forum, or here? It touches on all.

OK, after a bit more researching and thinking, I believe I can answer my own question.

From what I can see, the sound engine/module doesn't really "know" or "care" about A versus B drawbars. They simply respond to drawbar settings that are sent to them.

It is the controller side that selects A/B or presets, and just sends the current drawbar information to the sound engine/module.

So a keyboard with A/B drawbars will probably send CC's for A/B drawbars separately with their own CC#'s, but the input side of the sound engine is probably just receiving drawbar values, regardless of the source.

It also looks like VB3 does respond to A/B drawbar changes, so that it can reflect the A/B drawbars on the screen. So I think that something that is set up with A/B drawbars probably needs to see those separate CC#'s, but something with only one set would need the external controller to choose and send the single set CC#'s.

Need to think through how Crumar handles the "HOLD" function, so you can use the B drawbars, "HOLD" it, and then change the drawbars w/o affecting the sound, then switch to the A drawbars (current drawbar settings - which are now "A"). But I would think this is still on the "controller" side of the software, the sound engine is just responding to drawbar values, regardless of the source. Not sure that makes sense to anyone, but that's what I'm thinking.
