  • Crumar Mojo velocity issues, etc.

    Hey all Crumar Mojo friends.

I recently bit the bullet and purchased the limited edition Mojo. Cool eh? That is until I played it right out of the box.

Organ sounds, awesome. No issue there. Feels better than my C2D, sounds better that it, too.

However, one of the biggest reasons i bought it, aside from the looks and good reputation, is the fact I can play EP on the lower manual. I still don't understand why it is only Rhodes or Wurli (no piano, clav, etc. available), no editing available via the editor, and you're stuck with the "synth bass" as the only option (it would be nice to add a function via Shift+PEDALTOLOWER to activate tone wheel bass), but I digress, it is a fantastic keyboard.

Two main issues, the reason for this post:

    1) the velocity sensitivity is not consistent. I was practicing a bit yesterday and realized that when playing the Rhodes patch, certain black keys jumped out pretty aggressively, and it would take some pretty heavy strokes to replicate that on the white keys. Has anyone else experienced inconsistency from key to key? The samples (er.. modeling, whatever they use) for the EP isn't the greatest, my Nord has better samples for sure, and the highest triggered sound is pretty aggressive. Anyone want to back me up on that?

    2) Speaking of the sound of the EP, the higher register is pretty abrasive. If I play a higher chord, its harsh. If I am rocking a solo, the higher registers aren't really pleasing. I know the first preset is AMP SIM, so are there other amp models built in that I don't know about?

Anyone who has experienced this with their mojo, especially as of recently, please let me know. It's pretty tough to swap this guy out, being that there were only 20 made, so it really isn't as easy as swapping for a different one. I bought it new, and Crumar confirmed that the latest software was installed. That's all the info I have at the moment.

I'm counting on my Organ Forum Fam for any feedback possible!

Sounds like a duff keybed to me. I'd return it.

So, after a little bit more playing, the distorted/harshness definitely subsides when I do not use the amp sim (first preset button). So I assume that has to do with some not so flattering programming on Crumar's end. The velocity issues aren't quite as pronounced, but still happen. Anyone else experience this or have a mojo that can maybe chime in with more than just a one liner?

Looks like I'm two years late, but here goes.
I have a limited edition Crumar Mojo as well, and notice the same "features" as you do. The amp sim definitely makes these things more noticeable. As for the distortion in the treble, messing with the treble volume on the Mojo and the amp make it less noticable.
I got the organ a few weeks ago and looking at the editor on a monitor, I wonder if there's a way to import a different electric piano sound?

Not wishing to bring gloom into the room. I bought a Mojo61 after about 1 year of pondering, asking Crumar about the Acoustic Piano (they replied, nice). The box arrived, like a child at Christmas, I opened, powered it up went straight to the acoustic piano, dampers off on the high notes... yuk, dashed to the Rhodes, that velocity switching was rubbish, same damper off also. Yuk. I powered up my laptop use the Wi-Fi editor, basically it wouldn't connect, tried Android, same. Feeling rather.. :( choose your own word. I calmed down a little read the manual, to read there are no parameters to edit on piano! more :( by now I was really disappointed, I returned it back the the shop, all that discovery took 4 hours. The shop in Germany was very good. I am questioning myself if to write this... do not buy a Crumar Mojo for anything other than the organ. I then got a SK2 and that has stupid faults too.

I did ask Crumar if there were other pianos that could be loaded in and they said.... no.
