  • Yamaha NP12 midi confusion

    Hi everybody
I’m trying to connect a Yamaha np12 keyboard to my Yamaha psr s970 to make a TRX organ.
The older style 5 pin midi connection on the np12 is no longer there as it looks like Yamaha have done away with it.
What’s the best way to connect up the np12 to my Yamaha psr?

I don’t believe you can. The USB connection is designed to connect to a “Host” USB connection like a computer or iPad etc. I’m surprised that any keyboard would be made without MIDI jacks these days but I’ve seen a few recently.

You cannot do it directly because your NP12 is only designed to connect to a Computer via USB.

One way of doing it is to use a PC with a MIDI interface in between the two keyboards and use some software like MIDI-OX to provide a route between the NP12 (connected via USB) and the PSR (connected via the MIDI interface).

Another way is to use a BOME box between the two keyboards to provide the interconnectivity
