  • Vox Jaguar V304E2 - question about Bass Volume potentiometer

Hi... I'm looking to replace the Bass Volume pot/switch on my Jaguar. 2 Questions:

    1) Audio taper or linear taper (or does it matter)?
    2) The schematic calls for 50K, but I'm having a hard time finding 50K pots with an spst switch. Would 500K be acceptable?

Does the existing pot work at all? If so, check the difference between the volume at full and at half. If the difference is about 6dB, it's likely linear taper. If the difference is more like 20dB, it's likely audio.

I doubt a 500k would be acceptable - It might work OK, but there might be more noise.

    What does the switch do?

It's the power switch for the organ.

        It's the power switch (spst).

Checking online, the only 50k pots with switches I can find anywhere are linear taper, so maybe that's the deal with this one...

Given that this pot isn't for an expression pedal, which gets adjusted constantly while you're playing, I can't imagine that using a different taper than the original would make any significant difference to you.

(And if it's any comfort to you, some Vox Continental/Jaguar expression pedals came with linear taper pots, others with audio taper ones. I've had both, and can't say I have a preference for either. Both are fine.)

That's what I figured... the bass pot would be on full at all times, so yeah, sounds like a linear taper would do fine. Thanks!!
