  • Yamaha YC-45D portamento strip

Hello, I just picked one of these organs up.. Bought from the original owner and she even had the receipt from 1979! The portamento strip is broken (you can feel pieces missing) Anyone know where in the world I could find one? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum ! Is the portamento strip a raised one, or a flat one ? IE : can you feel the ribbon in the middle of it where it is not broken ? I might have one that will fit, but will need to check on it to be sure.

So, how much did the original owner pay for it when it was new ? 1979 seems late for a new one though, unless it was old inventory yet. Or maybe the combo organ models had longer model runs than the big ones.
    Regards, Larry

I happened to see this comment about the YC-45D on a combo organ site, not sure if it may be some use: "Note that in addition to the fact that the pitch ribbon is NOT the same as the portamento strip in the YC-30, it's function is also different. Rather than the plain flute voices, it controls the Slide Trombone, Squawk, Birds and Astro voices. Slide Trombone and Squawk are bright organ-like voices, Birds sounds like chirping, and Astro is sort of a ring-modulator effect. The range of the pitch ribbon is 3 octaves."
That was at Combo Organ Heaven.

I think the YC-45D has it using the voices available to it as you mentioned : Trombone, Astro, Etc. I'm pretty sure it is the same setup as the E-5AR, and similar to the EX-42 one. That is a separate voice section for the strip, not using it to modify the upper voices. But the question remains : is it one with a raised wire you can feel in the middle of it, or flat like an EX-42 one ? I have a strip available from a working E-5AR, but at this point I can't say if it is the same / will work, or not.

          Use a soft pot sensor.
