I play on Yamaha Clavinova's in several churches and the models there do not have a provision for a “plug-in” foot pedal volume controller (I have checked with Yamaha support and they say my model doesn't support one). Does anyone have an alternative after-market solution, electronic or even mechanical for these models?
Thanks very much Geo! I know Sweetwater Sound very well and you are right to recommend them! Do you know the Clavinova (CLP-535)? I agree that a MIDI volume control solution would be the most elegant; I'm wondering 2 things: a) if the Clavinova is set up to receive MIDI volume commands, and b) would the box you suggest convert a generic analog volume pedal to MIDI, or do I need a pedal that specifically sources MIDI data? I'm certain the expert sales staff at SW would know specifics, as well. Many thanks again!

I had MIDI Solutions make me up a box like just this. My Yamaha FC7 volume pedal plugs in at one end and CC11 Expression data comes out of the other. I haven't used it for a while but IIRC, they made it so I can switch the output to CC7 Main Volume data. Wasn't that expensive, even shipped direct to me in the UK. Worked as advertised.
But you'll have to check with Yamaha to see what channel(s) it expects to receive the data and then get the box to match - unless the box and/or piano can be set to any channel.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.
