  • Torn, which clonewheel

I am saving up and planning to add a clonewheel to my rig. Currently I use a MODX6 and have an 88 Casio below as a controller. All sounds are generated by the MODX. I've added Organamation to the MODX plus some custom stuff I've made. I want to add a proper clonewheel with waterfall keys and draw bars and use on-board effects and Leslie but each has advantages and I can't find any of them on the island I live on. Your recommendations please.

    From least expensive to most.

    Roland VR-730
+adds classic roland sounds to my rig
    +the only 76 key I am considering
+complete sound set, capable as acting as a backup if the MODX dies on a gig
    +Looks great
-may not sound the best of this group
-slightly worried about midi as my last Roland (Juno DS) had some really odd midi things going on. It didn't play well in a hardware rig.

    Crumar Mojo 61
    +Great sound and Leslie
-Worried about quality, portability (size and weight) and service in Canada
-very good but limited other sounds. I could limp through a gig if I had to use it as backup but barely.

    Yamaha YC 61
-Unproven and new, but Yamaha so should be solid
+/-great sound set but duplicates the MODX in almost every way so no added capability other than organ, great as a backup
-a little bit expensive. Wish it was under $2000 but it isn't here.

    Hammond XK-1c
    -most expensive
-I know nothing of addition sounds and midi capabilities.
-really I know nothing about it except it's $3000

There are no quality issues with the mojo so put that out of your mind. Also it weighs in at 24 pounds which is pretty portable. The Mojo in the states is $1500. The Hammond XK1c is $1400, so I'm surprised the cost would be double in Canada. The mojo or the XK1c could be gigged with their internal leslies. The roland is a step below these two. The YC61 doesnt cut it from a hammond/leslie perspective. My two cents which in canada appears to be a nickel.

Watched the YC61 demo on Youtube from Andertons's? I have.
Organ sounds are wicked good to my ears. Nord Electro killer. They did their homework.Has a way beefier synth than any other thing offered in your selection,a no brainer really.
Of course our 2 cents is in fact worth 1.5 cents US,making the Yamaha a better deal here in Canada.
The best one of the bunch IMO will also be the least expensive here!
The YC61 also has pitch bend, mod control, will spilt at ANY key(Nord is C/F....only)....
      I have ordered mine.
