I haven't seen any document such as you mentioned, but this text may answer a lot of your questions:

Re: i saw an old document somewhere that said something about how long tubes last in hammonds...
problem is those aren't the questions i was trying to answer :|

it actually had something to do with replacing speakers... and it said something else about tube life, and that you shouldn't swap tubes for ones with different gain ratings... ie. 12ax7->12au7... but i think it said that it's ok to replace speakers for a different sound...

what i want to know is what speakers can i replace them with? what impedance, power handling... and how loud are these compared to modern speakers?

i wonder how those jensen neodymium speakers would sound...

what's really getting at me is a problem with the 8" speaker though. i'm going to post another thread about it.

This debate has sprung up many times and i think the safe bet is to use the prescribed tube and not play games trying to get another one to do the job. Specifically with hammonds, they're designed for a certain tube for a reason. Also, hammond amps don't stress tubes very much, which is why it is so common to see factory original tubes which are still going for 50+ years.

Here is some interesting reading on swapping pre-amp tubes in a Blues Jr. amp:

As far as i'm concerned tubes and speakers are a separate ball game. Its important to note that while the Hammonds that we love here are tube amps, they are NOT guitar tube amps. My friend the guitarist changes his speakers and tubes on a weekly bassis no matter how many times I tell him he's crazy. Speakers do make a difference for his guitar tone but I doubt you'll get the same results with an organ. Meaning, hammonds don't fare well to experimentation, and if you do experiement, the gains (bad pun) are not worth the time, effort or money. Just my 2cents. But go for it if you want to...you being happy is the end result. As for speaker replacements you need to find one of the same impedance and equal or higher wattage capacity. Test the resistance with a multimeter across the taps of your speaker with nothing else attached and you should get a ball park figure (~7 for an 8ohm, ~15 for a 16ohm...etc). I have no experience with RMS and wattage for hammond speakers but i'm pretty sure you won't find a speaker that can't handle the hammonds power output. Also, do keep in mind tube output wattage and solid state wattage are not the same.

Re: i saw an old document somewhere that said something about how long tubes last in hammonds...
i know the tube stuff already! i've been told a bazillion times.....

it's the speaker thing i wanted to know... and thanks... speakers can actually make a bigger (tonal) difference than tubes... then again, fiddling with the drawbars can probably erase the difference anyway... jensen neodymium speakers are lighter though... and have a nice crisp clear sound...

maybe this http://jensentone.com/tonechart.php can help explain what differences speakers can make? click on the red speakers for distorted tone, blue for clean...

and about the NOT guitar tube amps... i'd just like to mention how PISSED i get every time i see a website that shows how to convert a hammond amp into a guitar amp... and how economical they are... gah! you buy a fully functional HAMMOND ORGAN and you take out the amp to use with GUITAR??? just keep the friggin organ and learn to play! it'll blow your friggin guitar out of the water! 18 watt guitar amps with 6v6's or el84's aren't that hard to come by... (... neither are baldwin and conn organs... and as long as you're going to destroy a good tube-amplified instrument... a-hem... might as well not be the MOST FAMOUS BRAND of said instrument...)

nothing against guitar... i play... i started playing before i got a hammond... but if i knew i could get a free hammond organ, i would have never started playing guitar. (i still play... but not as much as i did without the organ...)

and that's enough rant in the middle of an unrelated thread, wouldn't you say?
