• Vibrato Scanner in L-series ? Drum vibrato scanner from T-series.

I'm thinking about replacing the vibrato unit in my L-122 with something that sounds more like proper chorus vibrato from other Hammonds.

I guess putting vibrato scanner is quite difficult to do, isn't it?

I'll try Boss chorus pedal maybe tomorrow but i'm pretty sure I won't be happy with the result.

I know that in the US it would probably be easier to buy M-3 or M-100 but here in Europe we don't have many options :-)

I have found the guide how to make L sound like ABC but they use Boss effects...

Well, any help would be appreciated.

JonC3 is a member here who did that very thing, using a B3 scanner, but he went missing in action about six months ago. He makes some references in the next few posts after this one:

This might give you a starting point, but he didn't give the whole recipe....

I have found something called "drum vibrato scanner" which could fit in my L122.

It's from T-series Hammonds and it's driven by a belt connected to the motor.

Is there kind Hammond T owner on this forum who could take picture(s) of that piece and put it/them in here?[;)]

All I want to see is how the drum is fixed to the cabinet and - what is even more important - how it is connected to the motor.

        Thanks

Easy - because my tonegenerator is out on the bench at the moment.

The drum scanner is mounted alongside the tonegenerator motor and its driven by a pulley off the back of the motor - I beleive the L motor doesn't have that pulley.

And here with the scanner removed....

Let me know if you want any other shots, right now its easy to do

            Thanks!

That's all I wanted to know.

Looks a bit more difficult than I thought.

I will have to figure something out then. [:)]

              Kris,

Just had a thought - have a look at this

              http://modularsynthesis.com/modules/...er/scanner.htm

He built a standalone vibrato / chorus using the B3 pie scanner and a some sort of motor.

No reason why you couldn't do that with a drum scanner and mount it anywhere / anyhow you like in the L, certainlyeasier to DIY.

Of course you could buy a junk T - there'sa guy in north Wales been trying to get rid of one for a tenner for weeks on ebay -don't know if its still unsold.

I haven;t checked the modular synthesis page, but it sounds like what JonC3 did. Wnder if it IS him?

As for a junker T going for a tenner.... QUICK!!!!!!!!! GET IT!!!

                sounds like a chop...

Lunch is up, but I'll post up my own (not as revealing) scanner pics in 30 mins. They're already online from an earlier thing...

Actually, with a Junker T you could have fun building your own TG organ... replace the amp.. replace the preamps... a brilliant project.

Here's those pics. These were originally put up for JonC3 who wanted to see what the later T's used. The earlier ones used the pie scanner.

On the scwematic take a peek at part 22, the brush and lug assembly.

These little magnet-like brushes apparently aren't meant to be touching, if you ever have to reassemble the thing, ohterwise you get an uneven vibrato.

                        Hi Brendon,

The modular syntehesis site is the same guy who put up the very good pics of the 'Hammond hairs' on HZ recently. His site is worthbrowsing - he has some interesting gear.

I wish I could get that T. Its just too far (at least 4 hours drive) and what with the cost of van hire, diesel etc. its just not worth it. I just checked - it didn't sell, again. Bung 150352088509 into ebay search and it will come up. I think its a T300 or 400 with obvious faults.

                        I'm out of here, Simon.

                          Aww man!

That one might even have the pie scanner. A few broken keys are nothing...

                          Should be a project.

Buy it THEN bother how to move it! even if it's broken to pieces so you could put it in your car, just think what you could do....

                          A T500 sold for NZ$130 2 hours from here.

                            Thanks guys,

I don't have the materials or tools to do what Dave did (I guessed his name from e-mail address he provided).

I would need additional motor... everything. I know I woudn't do it.

Drum vibrato scanner seems a lot easier to install using existing motor (I'm sure I could even reaplace it with T-series motor with the pulley).

As for the Hammond T in Wales .... I'm not going there again... it costed me over £300 to get my L122 from Shropshire. But I guess I could pay tenner for the scanner and vibrato line only. I'll write to this guy in a sec.

Well, next week is going to be pretty busy for me[:)]
