• T-200 vibrato line box

    Hello friends,

My journey with my T has come to the point that the scanner vibrato has to be fixed. You can hear the vibrato, but it's kinda bubbly and the volume drops unless you put the chorus tab down, which increases the volume when vibrato is on.

I checked the fuzzy schematics I got with the organ, and it seems that someone has tampered with the line box, because the wiring is not the same as in the schematics. It has obviously been recapped recently and maybe the wiring has gone wrong.

Does anyone have a picture of T-200 working line box or a schematic with wire colors because my papers don't have them?

I checked the scanner and it is spinning OK.

Hi Jussi, unfortunately I can't help.

The only free service manual I can findfor the T-200 is the XTP manual at www.captain-foldback.com

The T-200 has the delicious "pie" scanner like the M series and the consoles, I believe. Manuals for those can be found at http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=hammond%20organ

Failing that, post a question in the "electronics" section of the "organ repair"area of th OrganForum, or ask Chris Clifton on Hammond Zone: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/hammond_zone/

He's a tech in Wales who is the moderator of that forum during UK's daylight hours. He knows a TON of stuff and will be able to help.

    Cheers!

This was a little job I was going to have to do soner or later, so here are the colours from my early 70's UK assembled T202-1

This was taken from the XTP manual that Brendon just cited, I just added the wire colours from my T202.

      Hopeit helps, Simon

        Thanks a lot, Simon!

No wonder the vibrato doesn't work. The wiring is not even close to that. I have the same schematics but I didn't know the colors. Now I can try to get the good vibes back again.

I'll let you know if this works. I would like to try it at once, but "work before play" ...

BTW, last night I removed the middle speaker from the cabinet to hear the leslie better and it works fine. I may try to put a baffle inside to reflect the sound out better. I think I have to go for the side vent, too...

          Hooray, it works!

I took all the wires off the line box and soldered them like the Simon's schematics showed and the vibrato works!!! No need to take the pie scanner apart and fix it. Only thing was that one of the inductors (?) was not working so I had to put a jumper to bypass it, but the vibrato is still very good.

Simon, if you ever come to Finland or visit Frankfurt Music Fair ( I'll be there every year) I will definitely buy you a beer or two...[B]

          Several episodes of thank you's

              Re: T-200 vibrato line box

Hi Jussi, Great! glad to be of help. Just a little point about bypassing one of the inductors (yes, thats the correct name). If you put a wire link across one of the inductors using two adjacent terminals on the top of the line box, then you should also disconnect one of the capacitors. This keeps the impedance of each section the same and ensures you get a clean vibrato. For example if you bypassed L811 then you should disconnect C822 (or C821) You only need to disconnect one end of the capacitor.

Of course, if you like how it sounds then leave it alone, it won't cause any harm.

                Hi Simon,

It made a terrific enhancement to the vibrato to disconnect the capacitor. How come you know all these things? What should I ask next? My 2 week summer vacation has just started and I have the whole weekend to mess around with my T...
