• H382 Vibrato scanner Q's

I recently acquired a Hammond H382. It contains two vibrato scanners driven off the main shaft. They run at differnt speeds as a result of the pully arrangement/size.

Why are there two scanners , one for each manual ?

Where can I get replacement belts for these ?

Where can I obtain a service manual for the H382? I have tried a number of web sites without success

One is the "Vibrato" scanner, the other the "Celeste" scanner. Activating the Celeste tab changes the vibrato to an extremely pleasant, slow and wavering vibrato effect, sort of like the sound of a Leslie on Chorale. This is especially effective in classical music and I use it more than I do any other vibrato setting. The Vibrato scanner is controlled by the Vibrato I and Vibrato II tabs, making three different levels of vibrato available using them. Activating the Celest tab cancels all other vibrato tab combinations. There is a complete description of this in the service manual that I've provided a link to in your other post.

Chances are that you're going to run into problems with the vibrato on this organ; they're notorious for that, but it's not that difficult to repair. I found that my two and another couple of H's that I've looked at all needed to haveall thecapacitors on the pre-amp boards replaced in order to restore the tone of the organ. The power supply would also probably benefit from a re-cap as the solid-state pre-amps seem to be kind of finicky. I refurbished the pre-amps in one of mine only to find that the vibrato still would not work because the power supply capacitors were failing.
