• Speaker upgrade for an A-100?

Are there any 12" speakers that would be a significant upgrade in an A-100? The original ones just don't sound so hot, kinda buzzy.I have a 50's HR-50 stuffed full of 12's I'm not using, are those better sounding speakers? would it be worth trying a swap?

I presume you mean an HR-40? They had two 12" speakersin thetreble section, and nine 10" speakers in the bass. Neither was full-range as you'd need in an A-100.

I don't know Hammonds are tricky when it comes to speaker upgrades.

Hammonds do not like good speakers. You start getting above 4000 hz freq response and you start hearing things come out of the organ you were not intended to hear. That is why everyone uses the Jensen horn drivers in their leslies. They can only produce up to 3700hz. If you put a good high freq driver in one it sounds like crap.

A good 12" EV or Celestion loudspeaker will get you up into the 5000 hz range. It may not soundas good as what is in there now.
