• Holy Hammonds, Batman!

    Hello friends,

I happened upon a yardsale at a church not long ago, and it turns out it wasn't really a church anymore...it's being leased to a "hippie commune" of sorts. Neat space for that kind of thing. Anyway, I went inside and they had no fewer than three pianos and three organs, two of which are Hammonds. They also had two Leslies "laying around". The Organs: On closer inspection, I found that the organs were a CV and a BV. The CV has a 9-pin adapter box attached to the underside of the console and the BV has a halfmoon switch labeled "REV/AUX" with OFF/MEDIUM/ON settings. The Leslie box inside the BV console is numbered 018432. The 6-pin Leslie jack is kind of dangling off the console as if it's been kicked or bumped, and two of the wires are unattached. The Leslies: One is a 44W, made for a Wurlitzer, with a five-pin plug. The other is a 31H with a Type 2 amp, also 6-pin. So this is kind of an odd assortment of gear and I'm hoping to piece together a functional combo for this place-- I just don't want to fry anything (or anyone!) in the process.

Does it sound like the BV can be paired with the 31H, given the info I've provided? I guess the first thing would be to solder the leads on the jack in the correct positions... I can only wonder how the 44W got into the picture and what the CV was played through...it seems unlikely they were/are a pair.

    Thanks for any insights!

It sounds like the BV may have a reverb kit installed? Thatwould be cool. It may also be wired for a 147R or 122R, I'm not sure of that kit number.

Are you trying to get these rigs playing for the residents?

Yeah, I'm just trying to get 'em going for "the church". It's a lovely place, with high ceilings, and I think a Hammond would sound great there. It's funny, nobody that lives there knows anything about the organs...they came with the place.
