• Trying to identify a Hammond

    Greetings from a newbie!

I was recently given an old Hammond organ and am trying to identify it. I can find no model number anywhere on it (and yes I have opened the back). It looks to be a spinet and here is what I can tell you about it:

    1. Two 44 key manuals

    2. Animation by Leslie

    3. Note-a-chord

    4. NO drawbars, just stops (or tabs to flip down)

    5. SSI - Sound Simulator

    6. 13 bass pedals

    7. Auto Vari Rythm

It looks like it might be an N series but the photos I found on the internet of those don't show spindle legs on the front. Any help would be appreciated!

Can you post a picture? I'm sure we will be able to identify the organ then.

      G'day Heather!

I can't help identify the organ, but each series have any number of different cabinet styles, the number in the name differed to identify the cabinet type.

Actually, if you look underneath the shelf that has the manuals on it there was usually an aluminium plate which had the organ's details on it.

On occasions it was instead on the back. On the very classic, older Hammonds they actually had this inside the organ, but the back on those was much easier to remove than the later electronic jobs...

      Cheers!

Given the SSI and the fact that it has 'tabs to flip down', this is a Romance series 126 model from the late 70's. I'm guessing that the SSI is to the right of the lower manual. A photo would clinch it.

If it is, it's an OK little home organ, much better sounding than an N, but it doesn't sound anything like a tonewheel Hammond - not meant to! It's Japanese built and, apart from the usual 'LSI disease' problems caused by inter-board connectors, they tend to be quite reliable.

Re: Trying to identify a Hammond

I found some photos of a Hammond Romance 126 and you were right! That's what it is! Thanks so much. Here is a link to the photos that facebook says is a public link.

              http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=295521&id=555345724&l=440cf9 d78a

Let me know if it works since this is the first time I have used it. Thanks again for the help. I am our church's music director and organist and a woman in our church donated the organ to me to keep at my house (so she could write it off on taxes) so I thought I should identify it and try to find its value just in case she needs that information.

              Blessings;
