Anyone put one on an organ?

    Can you?

Been listening to Wakiepoo's classic organ solo "Where is this Dream of your Youth?" (Strawbs) . He's getting non-organ wah-wahish sounds somehow.

Also noticed this on early live Earth & Fire (Dutch group).

Yes, I've done this. An unusual effect so I didn't use it that much. Some Lowrey home organs from the 60's and early 70's had the function built in. When switched on, the organ's volume pedal controlled the wah effect.

Waking my foggy memory again. I had a Wurlitzer that would do that and I believe a Kimball from about that same era had it too. And I think a lot of the 70's and early 80's organs had a wah-trumpet tab/stop.

Some Gulbransen models had the "electro-mute" stop/effect controlled by a knee lever - basically the same thing. First appeared on the 1135 Rialto K in 1964 I think...

Chester Thompson does it on a B-3 (Knock Youself Out) by sliding the lower two or three drawbars in and out.

I should go buy a wah wah pedal, I guess.

Groove Holmes would be proud! I think he was the King of funky wah-wah organ.

Another trick you can play with is hold down the 'C' preset key with your pinky while keying back and forth between two other presets keysto get wah typetone changes

The Peddlers and the Big organ Trio also put wah in their FX chain.

The normal thing would be to put a FET buffer at some stage in the organ and have an effects loop (probably recipes on the forum somewhere) but I vaguely remember hearing that one of the above blokes had the wah put after the upper manual, so the lower was still playing normally. I can't confirm that however.

That is how Groove Holmes set his up. Wah-wah on the top manual andthe bottom straight. He also played organ through and envelope filter. I think most guys today refer to an envelope filter as an auto wah. I used to play a Hohner Clavinet through an envelope filter. That was the hip thing to do i the 70s. I always did like that sound.

Here is an article on Groove Holmes that sort of goes into his effects. Plus thae guy has a bunch of MP3 clips of Groove playing.

Actually, I kinda agree with ya baggy, I picked up a bunch of spyro gyra a while back on LP, it was fun, but sure not as aggressive as early Focus.

It wasn't just the Americans that went slick though. Listen to the Focus albums Focus Con Proby or Mother Focus or whatever... they'd completely lost their edginess and gone the slick Elevator way of late 70's like everybody else. "hip" Lounge music!

That late 70's game show fusion dated really badly, while the earlier stuff still has a fresh rawness that doesn't get old. It's when sophistication and a self congratulatory "cleverness" sets in that a band gets mouldy really quick!

Big Organ Trio are good and raw.

Focus are back good and strong, I got an email from a friend this week who was on his way to see them in concert. They were sitting in the plane in the row ahead of him!

This friend also likes a bit of organ. Here he is on his own C3:http://www.myspace.com/bergsinferno

The key is WHAT is your fusion FUSED from?? It's just a cross genre genre, a mixture of styles.

                              Is it Jazz/easy listening/lullaby cross? Jazz/rock/classical/folk? Punk/folk/hiphop/swing?

Focus's mixture changed over time, kinda lost the hard rock edge, along with the classical and euro folk. All that was left was.......

                              ...anyhow!

On the Organ trio thing, Bob, do you mean current bands or links to older bands?

I was sent a cool link to a brian Auger 1975 concert that was kinda cool.

                              http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/concer...StartTrackID=4

On the Internet Archive there's a a band... I think they're "Robert Walter's Heavy Organ" something or other, but they are more jazzy and less like Hendrix than the BOT.

Chris Vipond recently mentioned Medeski, Martin, and Wood, a different sort of trio but their stuff on Myspace was pretty innovative. They're quite new.

The other thing is to go to BOT's myspace page and trawl thru their top friends....
