• Connector Kit for A102 to Leslie 147 -- 8444 or 7279?

    Dear all,

I am looking to connect a Hammond A-102 to a Leslie 147. The kit on TWGH costs about $350. A 'vintage' 7279' Kit on ebay is about $150. Looks like it will work ('with single channel organs'). Is there any disadvantage to this? Does the specific kit allow me to mix the reverb signal to the leslie speaker?

    Sorry about my newbie question

    Thanks.

7279 will take the main signal but not the reverb. However, I seem to recall that we;ve discussed this before and there was a way round it. It has definitely been discussed on Yahoo Hammonzone. A post there would get results!

Schematic for the 8444 is here: http://www.fishorgans.com/leslie_kits/008444_kit_for_Hammond.pdf

Haven't had time to look through properly but you might be able to figure the way to mix those signals to spin the reverb through the leslie.

Thanks Andy. A thorough search of the archives revealed the appropriate thread. Also, understanding that the 7279 IS the '26-1' box allowed me to make my purchase. I'll worry about sending the reverb through the leslie later, although the 'spinning reverb' is apparently not that desirable anyways.

       What a great forum!

Cant wait to hook this up! Been waiting patiently for 17 years to get a REAL hammond through a REAL leslie!

So Wait, I have another question for you knowledgeable folks:

I was reading the instructions on hooking the 7279 kit to your home single channel organ (on Fishorgan) and instructions are given to cut the power and line leads, connecting them to the five pin adapter, and plugging this into the connector console.

But wait! the A-100 already has a 5 pin output on the amplifier for 'external speaker'! Does this mean I could just get a five pin cable, connect it fom the A-100 amplifier straight to the console and avoid splicing any wires altogether? (albeit a lazy move)

Thanks y'all for the help you provide.

5 pin Amphenol connectors on Hammonds are usually ONLY for Hammond tone cabinets or Leslie Models like the 122, 21H, 22H, 222, 31H. DON'T plug a 147 type in there or anything else unless you like smoke, sparks and fires.
          Hammonds: A; AB; B3; D; E; 6-M3's; 2-A100; T582C.
          Leslies: 3-31H; 21H, 22H, 4-44W; 46W; 25; 47; 45; 125; 50C; 51; 55C; 2-120; 122; 122A; 145; 147; 245; 770; 825; 2-102; 2-103; 300.
Wicks 2/5 pipe organ; Yamaha upright; Kurzweil Micro Piano & Micro B with M-Audio Oxygen 61; Yamaha DGX520; Wurlitzer 4100 (it came with a Leslie!). Peavey KB100 keyboard amp. Peavey Bass Guitar. Yes, I have A. D. (acquisition disorder) and don't want it cured.

Do a search hereabouts and you'll find plenty of info about putting a 26-1 kit on all sorts of organs. Assuming 'standard' colours, the 5 wires from the 26-1 kit go like this:

Blue / Grey - to switched AC in the organ

Black - to ground wire on speaker

Now interrupt the 'hot' wire from the amp to speakers/crossover (usually green). Red wire goes to the amp side of the cut. Green wire to the speaker side.

            Job done!

Thanks so much for your patience. I see that this A100 to leslie 147 question has been addressed MANY times.

I'm going to abuse your kindness one more time. Hammondwiki says to connect the G-G outputs from the AO-28 to the connector, not the speaker outs from the AO-39, as there is a high-cut filter in the AO-39,

Any opinon on this, Andy, or anyone for that matter? Is the signal too weak from the AO-28? I ask because I am interested in getting some howling sounds from my leslie at times.

              Thanks a million, again,

PS I bought my first REAL Hammond today after YEARS of clonewheels. Its like every song I playsounds 200% better, and I don't even have the leslie hooked up!

Hammond Wiki recommends hooking up the G-G outputs and NOT the speaker outs to the connector kit to avoid the high-cut filter in the AO-39. Any thoughts?

The 147 is an unbalanced input so you'd need to use one of the G G teminals plus the ground terminal. AFAIK that will work, but I'm not sure about using the 7279 with that method.

I quite like the A100+147 sound, taken from the speaker outputs, but that's just me. I'm not much into 'scream' and overdrive etc, as many of the players seem to be. So I like my organ sound just a tad tamer. [:)]
