• Hammond FAQ / TECH write ups / 'garage section' etc.

    Hi,

There is obviously a lot of great info on this site and a lot of helpful knowledgable people willing to share. I'm new to this forum and try to use 'search' before posting if i can. Sometimes it is difficult to quickly/efficiently obtain relevant search results - even though the info has likely been covered before.

One thing that I've seen on other (non-organ) forums sometimes (especially in auto related forums) are things like a "tech write up" section, or a "FAQ - frequently asked questions" section, or a "garage" section that will contain commonly asked questions/ problems / fixes / diagrams / mods / etc.

Can anyone point me to any such hammond relatedinfo, to use as a resource before asking questions that have probably been asked, answered, etc. many times? On the off chance it is not 'PC' to publicly post links to other sites - a PM would be great too (but would help others more if it is an open post here i think).

    THanks.

No worries about 'advertising' other Hammond sites here on OF, especially in this section.

Have you discovered Yahoo Hammondzone yet? Rather more technical discussion there than here, though threads on mods to organs like the T series have been going strong of late! Hammondzone has a good mix of users including some very knowledgeable techs. There are one or two other sites that I've looked at but found a tad unfriendly.

Don't be afraid to ask a question here or on Hammondzone, even if you think it's been covered before, but you're right to try the search feature first. It's not perfect and there is no general repository for technical posts, but it can work. If not, well at least you've tried before asking!

It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Hey thanks for the reply. I'm glad you didn't take my post the wrong way as I am in no way dissing this site (it is awesome and lots of great people/knowledge/info). In fact, have already received great info/advice etc. to the questions i've asked in my very short time here.

There are also various sites dedicated to certain models about the place, there's Hammondwiki worth looking into.(which isn't always right, being a wiki!)

I've heard the Hamtech archives are very good, but I don't know if anyone these days can get membership!

There is an archive which has most of the vintage service manuals if you need 'em,http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=hammond%20organ

it also has a bunch of free live recordings on it and who knows what else!

If you have a specific problem, different people have found different sites which may have the answer. Chris Clifton on the Hammond Zone IS very good, too.

There are chaps here who hang around in the electronics section here too, who may be worth finding: forums>organ repair>electronics

I'm on Hammond Zeni which does have a lot of technically knowledgable guys, but as Andy said, they only answer a few questions of particular interest (has to be vintage) and often go right off subject (which is fine!) for weeks on end and then suddenly no one is posting anything at all!

They MAY have an archive worth searching. I'm sure I found some stuff there....

Problem is most of my mucking around is with solid state amps.

        -Cheers!
