• 9 pin cable to connect leslie to hammond

    Hi all

I am based in the UK, and have recently bought a hammond and a leslie which both require 9 pinconnection, but to date have been unable to acquire a suitable cable on ebay.

Does anyone know of anywhere in the UK that I can either buy a ready made 9 pin cable, or suitable parts to assemble one myself - my dad is a qualified electrician so I would have the means if I could only find the parts!

I know that there are a number of US based sites offering finished cables, but with the freight and duty costs, this seems an expensive route.

    G'day and welcome, Mcfly!

Here in New Zealand I have to DIY everything.

There are a cupla places in the UK where you can buy the plugs, but I can't remember where. I don't know if Swaine carries them:

There's a guy who used to work in the Hammond UK factory who still has parts, forgot his name.

The best bet is a google search or Get Tonewheel1966, AndyG or other UK members to fill you in. However, I got an 8 core PA speaker wire from a local professional stage gear shop, was expensive stuff, luckily I only needed about 3metres!

The 9 pin plug won't normally use all 9 pins, so you'll probably get by with less wires.

It's also not legal now to sell (new) a system that carries power and audio in the same line. Last week I burned out my amp when one of the pins brushed against another part of the socket and sent 240V thru the audio line... this is why it's not a good system and why it's discouraged. (putting a circular plug in the wrong way around is also easily and often done in spite of the thing in the middle which is supposed to stop that happening!)

This means if any lines are carrying mains power, you can also exclude those. (I can't recall if the 9pin jobs do or not!) If you do get to exclude wires which carry mains power, you can then install a power socket from an old PC and use the jug style cord. This is the safest option because if the power cord gets tugged hard it pulls out instead of shorting. An on/off switch with a nice LED is a very good idea too.

    Cheers!
