  • Reconnecting a Severed Hammond X66

Here's a new one, or at least I've not been able to find a post addressing this issue. The X66 I just purchased as a self-gift for Christmas has only one problem so far. Some movers decided to remove the upper console by simply cutting every wire which runs through the chromed support tubes! And since they were such smart guys they didn't bother to take a few minutes to label the two bundled sets of identical wires - brown wire bundle on right side (foot pedals?) and a heavier wire bundle of 7 black wires on the left side.
Can anyone direct me to a section on the site dealing with such a problem and/or have the knowledge to assist with this challenge. The color coded wires will be no problem, it's just those two bundles which have me stumped.
I DO HAVE the SERVICE MANUAL marked "Preliminary" but I've been unable to accurately trace each of the bundled wires. I can also post photos and I live in the DC/Baltimore area if you're near and should want to "drop by" for a cup of coffee. I plan to use quick connects so I can easily remove the console later in the year to attempt a restoration.
Thanks in advance and I'm also on the lookout for an Owner's Manual for the X66.

Unfortunately, you'll have to find each corresponding wires by terminal connection (generator and footpedal). The service manual with help to a point. Probably best to use a resistance meter or better still, a diode meter that beeps when the leads are shorted. There's no easy way around that problem. The footpedals will be particularly challenging due to the multiple contacts per footpedal. Pretty much requires you to bull out the pedals and visually find the corresponding wires. :-(

Thank you. Yes, the foot pedals will be done "down the road" after I've made the other connections. I need to find out if it plays which I'm hoping I'll be able to do even without the pedals connected. Dan Vigin has sent me some very helpful notes but I still have a long way to go. I believe my meter has a diode setting so I'll check that out. Sounds are usually helpful when working alone.
