  • Thomas Celebrity 871 Organ

Just acquired a Thomas Celebrity 871 with a Leslie 700 Speaker. It powers up but does not play. The cable for the speaker to the organ was lost as some point. Does the organ need the speaker to play or are there internal speakers? Both pieces are in great shape other than the missing cable and the organ not playing but it does hum internally and light up when powered on. I would like to try and fix it as I have extensive electronic back ground just need some directions from the pros. Was passed down to me from my Grandfather who bought it in 1975 new.

    Hi Double J -
You have posted this in the Hammond section of the Organ Forum.
You might get more (and better) replies if you post this in the Theatre Electronic Organ section.

I hope you can get that Thomas Celebrity 871 working.

The 871 has internal speakers. If there's no sound check the headphone slide switch which is located under the lower manual near the knob which adjusts the level of the surround lights. You might have to get on your knees to find it. These switches were also prone to getting dirt on the contacts, developing noisy or intermittent operation. A shot of contact cleaner usually clears this up.
Here is the pinout guide for the organ's 9-pin external speaker socket:
      Pin 1.............Ground
      Pin 2.............No Connection (NC)
      Pin 3.............Rotor channel output
      Pin 4.............NC
      Pin 5.............Main channel output
Pin 6.............Fast motor (connects to ground)
Pin 7.............Slow motor (connects to ground)
      Pin 8.............A.C.
      Pin 9.............A.C.

You'll need to acquire the pinout for the Leslie 700. A good source would be here: http://www.captain-foldback.com/Leslie_sub/pinouts.htm
