  • Update on T-500 resurrection , does a T-500 sound different/not as good as a T-200?

I'm so happy the organ is coming back to life. I got the hum mostly gone. Disconnecting the tape deck made a big difference along with cleaning all the connections in the organ. I never cleaned the drawbars but they started getting better from me simply playing it often.

The thing that I'm really disappointed about is that I don't think it sounds as good as my T-200. The T-500 should sound as good as the T-200, right? Or are there some inherent differences. The T-500 just doesn't sound as pure. There is a subtle yet annoying high frequency harmonic distortion which I think seems to be linked to 1' and or 1 1/3' drawbars. (It almost sounds like what one would hear if you pushed several pre-sets down at once on a A-100) It is not apparent in lower registers but you can start to hear it starting at about the E above the C above middle C. The T-200 did not do this. To the untrained ear, most people think it sounds great but to me it just makes it sound kind of "cheesy" for lack of a better word and I don't even really enjoy playing it because it simply does not sound right to me and I'm not getting the sound I crave. I have no idea what could be causing this so I am hoping some of you on the Forum may have some ideas. Some things I've wondered about:
    • Is it a speaker or cross-over issue. I thought it might be something with the Leslie and considered switching out the Leslie and putting in the one from my T-200 to see if it makes a difference. Although, I think I hear the sound through the main speakers as well.
    • Could it just be dirty drawbars?
    • Bad caps or other type things?
    • Something's not right with the amp and/or pre-amp?

The other issue is more straight forward. The pedals badly need new felts. Some of them sound like they are completely missing. I've found resources for A-100 or B-3 felts but not for the T series. Does anyone know where I might find those?

Any thoughts and comments will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, John
