  • Swap B-2 guts for CV guts, Beater backline organ...

I’m helping a fellow restore his beater chopped B-2, It’s missing a bunch of tones and is not playable really. It’s bolted down to a professional looking metal stand. It has a permanent expression pedal. Wired for 122, it was from some backline co.
I have several CV’s in all kinds of conditions/parts, working consoles ect. Instead of replacing manuals and generator. Wonder if it would be best to just use some working CV guts?
Any thoughts? Like I was saying the metal frame is fairly permanent to the top chop. Looks like the legs were just cut off and replaced by a metal frame, complete with connector box and swell pedal on bottom, it never comes off even for shipping. Thanks for reading Tom

Late CV manuals and generator will work with a -2 preset panel and controls/preamp. You could keep the -2 controls/preamp and add some clean CV manuals/generator.
-2 manuals are smooth playing keys. Some CV's aren't. Order of terminal strip and sequence will determine ease of this 'marriage'.
CV preset panel is mono,-2 preset panel is split to accomodate the split vibrato upgrade of the -2.

Quite sure member enor upgraded a BCV with -2 controls.

Yeah I'm just trying to get some ideas. No matter what, it's a bunch of work. I'll find out if he can't live without the B-2 case, then I could use his trek stuff, 122 kit, on a smooth key CV. Thanks for the reply Pete.

CV parts are fairly compatible with the -2.

Why are the notes missing? Bad wiring, bad manuals, bad TG?

Personally I wouldn't swap the guts for -V guts since it would mean losing the nice sound of the AO-10 preamp, and the split vibrato. Better to use your good -V parts to fix the -2.

some one else has been in there and tried to fix it, Stealing tones from adjacent wires and stuff. Probably started off with tone gen. and moved wires for no reason. I guess I could replace the generator and put the manual wires back in place?

A serial # would be handy.
Later B2 has non sequential terminal strip and you describe 'stealing adjacent tones' which,if I presume means two octaves apart then this is a later tone generator.
Only the early -2 tone generators had a sequential terminal strip suitable for a CV manual terminal strip.

... but on the other hand, he has complete CV guts so it's no biggie - just take the generator-to-manual harness too, from the CV that donates its generator.
