  • Question about a (Northern) Hammond BC (Made in Canada)

    Hi,

I just bought a Hammond B/C SN N144. Built in the late 30s. There is no START switch, just one switch that turns on both TGs and the Leslie. Is there supposed to be a Start and Run switch like very other Hammond A/B/C/ etc that I have ever seen.

Also, is there anywhere in Ontario (GTA) to buy parts for Hammond?

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Sounds like it was converted to single motors at some point.
When I got N203 the chorus genny run motor was shot.An M3 donated a run motor to keep it working.
Also, this one had a vibrato added in 1950 making it a 'BCV'.
N203 lived in a church sanctuary out here since 1938. Organ was built in Montreal in 1937,and has a 91 tone type genny.

Some Hammonds in southern Ontario had 25HZ motors, and were built for the regional 25HZ power grid.
When the grid went 60HZ the Hammonds had to be converted.
Some reduction gear and 'unobtainium' belt IIRC?

Forum member Wes Garland has an older CV with this type mod.Maybe he will enlighten us further?
He's in eastern ON in the Kingston area.Up in Ottawa there is Rich Vernon, also a wealth of knowledge,
He is member 'nonreverb' on here! Many other Ontarians on here.
    Heck,I'm ex-pat out here,born in Leamington!
You'll more than likely find what you are looking for on this forum.

      Hey Pete,

Thanks for the info. I will check with the person that serviced the organ in the past and see what's up. I'll update this thread when I get a definitive answer.

In the meantime, I'll keep checking this thread for any more info from the other folks.

Thanks again and stay sweet Pete, stay sweet!!!
