  • Is it possible to add the vibrato/chorus circuit to a model E?

    Hi,

I recall having read once about a model EV (legacy E + vibrato) but I don't remember if this was a factory option or someone had added the mechanical scanner and associated circuitry to the regular model E.

Anyone has some experience with it?

I found on the internet pics of a model E with the vibrato knob, but unfortunately I can't find the contact info of the owner of the website to ask him. This is the site:

    Thanks a lot in advance.

Hammond offered the vibrato upgrade option as a field-installed kit, and the kit was fairly extensive because it included many parts, the run motor with scanner gear and scanner, the line box, a different preamp, the vibrato selection switch, etc.... It's a major job, and that's with all the parts and instructions supplied by Hammond.

With the Concert Model E, there's the additional problem of having two separate expression pedals, but with the secondary input on the Vibrato Preamp, it might be possible to make it work. But it wouldn't be easy.

      Oh really? Interesting...

Do you know if this kit was in fact the same circuitry and parts which were coming in the organs which had this feature from the factory or if it was something specific made for the model E?
I understand it will not be a plug and play job but it could be a fun project to start with....

Anyway you made a good point. I should get all the parts needed for it to work.
I am not in the US and here there are absolutely no spares available, so I should buy overseas with the complications it implies. Missing parts, broken item, etc may easily lead to frustration.

Do you recommend getting into it? Are chances of succeeding (supposing I can get everything I need in working condition) high?

      Thanks.

The few examples I have seen with a CME converted to an EV, the dual expression feature was lost. The process made the organ a single pedal instrument.

I would not recommend it, especially if you don't have access to all the parts you'd need.
