  • M101 Line Out Noob Question

I’ve done research over these line out boxes using the scheme from Hammond wiki. I know that there’s also a reverb channel, I don’t care to use it since the plan it to use an amp. I know to use an 8ohm, 10watt resistor for the speaker dummy load. My goal is to disable the internal speakers.

Since I plan on using a 100k pot, I don’t need to change the 1k resistor or anything? I’m a complete noob with this stuff and these are the 2 things leaving me stumped before I attempt to buil and use it.

I did also notice the comment on the wiki to place the resistor 8ohm, 100watt right before the pot, for a nice clean signs?

You should probably stick to what's on the dariwiki site.

You'd need a 8 ohm 10 watt resistor, not 100 watt. This is referred to as the "dummy load" resistor. Yes, before the pot. The purpose of the 8 ohm 10 watt resistor is to have a load on the amplifier in the absence of a speaker. No matter what you do, the amp must "see" that resistor in order to operate in the way it was intended to operate.

If you use a 100k pot instead of a 20k pot, you will have a different range of volume than if you just stuck to a 20k pot. There is no harm in trying a 100k pot but I'd try a 20k pot as well and see which one you prefer.

My personal preference is to use a transformer in between the dummy load and the output. The transformer used on the Leslie 122 kit (048025) is what I like.

There are dozens of ways to go about doing this, but the only "wrong" answer is one that omits the dummy load resistor. Gotta have that across the amp's output.
