  • H Series "String Bass" issue

I’m hoping to get some good input on what is wrong and how to fix the problem from anyone. I have an early model Hammond H-133. The bass pedals play fine until I use any of the “String Base” (sustain) settings. When any of those settings are in use, after hitting the B flat pedal, the pedals played after will sound with the B flat tone included. The same happens with the lowest D pedal. It should be noted that this only happens on pedals below the note that continues to double play – not with bass peals above said note! And, like I said – this is not happening without the String Base. I’ve tried adjusting the Bus Bar knob in the back of the Pedal Switch unit and that didn’t really change anything. Ideas or suggestions???

I think there`s a latch and solenoid used on every note when in the sustain mode,it sounds like the D and Bflat latches aren`t releasing.

skydawg is correct, the latches aren't releasing.

When string bass is on, playing a pedal note a solenoid latches the contacts on that note. This is necessary for the sustain. The latching circuitry is such that only one solenoid latch can be active at a time. Playing a second note should release the latch on the first note. There should be an internal adjustment for the pedal latch current. If incorrectly set, the latches may not release. Can you get the note to release if you play multiple pedals at the same time? If so, you may need to tweak the adjustment. Otherwise, it's possible that there's a mechanical problem with those two solenoids that are causing them to stick.
