  • C3 Issue help

Look at this video of a C3 that was given to me to rebuild.
The problem with the tones sounding was there when I got it.

I took the keyboard out and performed the following:

Cleaned the DB, and did not notice anything wrong other than it was really dirty. It had obviously been worked on before, as half of the drawbars were from an M series. There were also 18 contacts that were missing the resistance wire so I installed resistors.

Cleaned the buss bars. Those on the upper manual looked pretty good, hardly any wear at all. Those on the bottom were trashed, I had to replace them all. The little contact wire was broken and sticking out on several places on all the buss bars.
(Yes, I made sure that none of the presets or keys were depressed when I put the buss bars back in)

I was sure that the buss bars were the cause of the keyboard issues, so I put the keyboard back and the problems were still there.

I double checked to see that there are no crossed or grounded wires from the DB, then I swapped the matching Xformer.

    Problem persists.

I am just before taking the keyboard out again, I thouight I would get suggestions on what you all think the problem may be.

    In reality, there is.

Based on my limited experience, either a busbar has a wire poking up, or a key contact is under a busbar. Any chance you had a key taped down when you put the busbars back in? (Don't ask me how I know this.)

Indeed, either a broken contact wire or a key contact on the wrong side of the busbar. My money is on the latter. Either way, your problem is on the 1 1/3 bussbar, under the lowest A key.

I had the same problem when I did foldback on an M3. Key contacts were under the busbar. I removed the offending busbar, bent up the offending contact, and carefully replaced the busbar. I had multiple instances of this. Simple fix, just takes some time.

          You all were indeed correct.
I took the top cover off the upper manual and there was one contact that was bent and under the buss bar, about in the middle of the keyboard.

I have no idea how that could have happened; since this issue was there when I got the organ.
When I took the buss bars out to clean and check them, they all looked very good and fell back into place with no resistance at all. The contact was permanently deformed eveb when the buss bar was removed, and I used a small screwdriver and a paint can opening tool to bend it back.

          Thanks all
