I have an opportunity to buy a C3 ( around $700) but it does not have a Leslie or tone cabinet to test soundwise.
Anyone have any creative ideas or solutions?
I have guitar amps and I know a little electronics
You can connect preamp ground and g output to a 1/4 female jack and connect headphones. Make sure the swell pedal is backed off and possibly use volume soft tab. I did this to test my old C3.
Mind you if I came across a C3 at that price I’d get it home and then worry about whether it worked!
The connection of the g ground and the g output to a 1/4" female will work but as mentioned above the output will be very hot and the sound tends to get distorted. Two remedies would be two: put a small mixer in between the 1/4" and the input to your headphones to down attentuate the output, or put a line attentuator (rather than a mixer) in the flow. It's smaller and adjustable.
I tried a mono 1/4" female jack -tip to red "G" screw on back of preamp,
and sleeve to "ground" - 5th screw from the right on back of preamp.
Sent it to a guitar amp (very low volume)
It did not work.
This is a chop and there is an issue with hooking up a Boss expression pedal to resolve first.
Is there a 200VDC power supply present anywhere in the organ? The BV preamp won't work without an external power supply; which can either be fed back to the organ from the attatched Leslie/Tone cabinet OR from an added-on power supply in the organ. From the pic it appears that both a thicker, "leslie cable" style wire and a thinner wire (which looks dangerously worn and frayed) go to the B+ terminal of the amp. Where do they lead?
Current organs: AV, M-3, A-100
Current Leslies: 22H, 122, 770
Ok. I’m unraveling the history of this BV.
When the seller tried to set this BV up to test it for me, he had it hooked up to a Leslie 122.
But he couldn’t get it to work ( probably the expression pedal issue) so he gave the BV to me.
I found the original Ad where he bought it from and the original owner claims in the ad that the BV still works.
So it looks like my seller bought this BV and Leslie for the Leslie.
I do not see a power supply inside the organ.
I will post more pics.
Alright. I have a signal out from Rheostat box to a Guitar amp.
I did the "One Drawbar at a time / press every key sequentially" test and a small handful of tones did not sound.
Overall the manual(s) feel good
