  • T500 Ser.# location?

Did Hammond ever place their maker's tag in a location other than on the lower right back (pedal side) of their "T" series, particularly the T500? The present owner of what I think (from photos) is a T500 says there are no such tags on the back of one she is trying to sell.

No, that's where they're supposed to be. But they sometimes go missing. :)

All mine had simple Dymo printed labels with the serial number at the top right of the organ, viewed from the back. All assembled by Hammond UK and that's just the way that they did things back then. No proper maker's plate at all. Very easy to remove - or to put a different number on!

Depending on where you are in the world, serial numbers won't give you any idea of when a T500 was made. It's not that important, as it might be if you were trying to date a late 50s or early 60s B-3, for example. T500s only had a short run, around 1973 to 1974/5 - the last ones were assembled from parts in the parts bin, most likely.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Plus, there really were no significant changes made during the T-series production; the year of manufacture therefore makes no difference either to value or performance.
