  • A101, 22H low volume, but external input works fine

    Hi there!

I recently traded an A101 and 22H to a friend that lives out of state. It worked perfectly at my house, but after driving from Chicago to Des Moines, it developed a fault.

There is very low volume coming from the organ, but when connecting a minimoog to the external input, that is at full volume.

Background info: The AO-28 GG terminals measure less than 1 volt. This organ has had the speakers, reverb, and baffle removed, and I am using the power amp with tubes removed as an outlet box, and I had installed an 8000 Leslie kit the night before I delivered it. I removed all of the preamp tubes during transit, and they all light up upon reinstalling. The owner had removed the tube shields to confirm this, and then a 60hz hum became present after touching a tube.

Can any of you give us some suggestions on things to try? The new owner is a competent tech, but I believe he is not yet familiar with working on Hammonds.

    Thanks!
    Matt

Has he double checked that all tubes are in their correct locations?

Is the problem the same both with vibrato on and off?
Is the level of the percussion signal affected too?
    Current organs: AV, M-3, A-100
    Current Leslies: 22H, 122, 770

I will have him double check he tubes. We did still have the problem with vibrato and percussion on as well.

Then my guess is that the 12AX7 socket has something else than a 12AX7 plugged into it.
