  • Leslie Power Transformer questions

    Hi all,
my power transformer from leslie 122 started giving me some smoke signals, that he need retirement. Before I spend money for new one, I'd like to ask few questions:
    - original transformer has paper insulation, modern ones use plastic isolation. Is there really a difference? I can rewind old transformer or get custom made transformer here in Poland. The tech who is rebuilding my amp insist on using modern plastic insulation. Another option is to buy new transformer from classictone.net - they use old school paper insulation, but it will be almost two times more expensive after shipping and taxes. Is it worth to spend more money?
    - i heard the rumor that power transformer from leslie 251 is better than 122 power transformer - since it's bigger and has bigger wattage. If I order custom transformer for my leslie is it worth to get bigger one than stock power transformer in 122? The rumor says about "beefier bass"...
