  • Hammond 5200 Maverick

    Hi,
I just got a Hammond 5200 Maverick Organ for my son to practice on. He is a music major in college and excite.

I bought off of eBay, a maintenance manual hoping there were more instructions on how to use and play the organ, but there were not. Does anyone have such manuals or can point me to something? Or manuals for similar organs in the Hammond family?

    Hi.

Not all organs are created equal! :)

If your son is a music major at college and playing classical organ there, then the Maverick will be of little use to him and probably no use whatsoever, unless he wants to play around making some 1970s home organ sounds just for amusement. He would need a classical specification organ with full length manuals and 32 pedals to practice for his proper studies. They're big! The absolute minimum would be a console model with 2 x 61 note manuals and a 25 note pedalboard. There are hundreds of them out there for sale at any time. Still a big piece of furniture but not as huge as a true classical model.

The Maverick is so small in specification it doesn't really need much of an owner's manual and as it's from 1974 there's little chance of finding one. But you have asked in one of the right places. As an organist, your son would be able to find his way around it in moments.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.
