  • Pre War and Post War Run Motors

Are there any differences between the two (specifically the cog on the back)? I believed they were different although I had never seen a later motor with the scanner removed. I recently acquired a spare 230 volt 50 hz motor minus the scanner as a spare for my BC and it looks the same. Short of transferring my Tremulant box onto the new motor, I’d like to be sure I could retain the Tremulant feature if I had to swap out the motors.

The first pic is a motor that had a scanner on it and the second pic is my own Tremulant box. You can see the cog at the top of the picture and they look similar to me.

A motor meant for a scanner is not interchangeable with one meant for a tremulant - the pinion gear is different. Both of your motors appear to have the "tremulant gear" though, as far as I can tell from your pics.

      Dave -

Although Tremulant and Scanner Run Motors differ with the gear - it is possible to retrofit the latter to the former. Below is a link to my Concert E restoration video that briefly shows how I did it (the link takes you right to the spot). Should you need or want a more detailed explanation, PM me.

        Thanks both for your replies.
Enor the left hand picture is actually off the internet and part of a scanner disassembly sequence. The cog also looked similar to me hence the question. The motor with tremulant that you swapped me is working fine but I wanted to stock up on spares. I should also check to see whether my chorus run motor has the tremulant cog because that could always be swapped with the main generator and carry the tremulant using the later motor to run the chorus generator.

Joey, I watched the whole film from start to finish. You have done a fantastic job to be proud of. I was also interested in the front rails and drawbar restoration as I will have to do the same to my BC one day. Hopefully my run motors have a few years left in them yet but I am relieved that the later ones will be compatible with a stator change.

Im glad there are a few pre war owners on here!
