  • Another half moon switch question

    Are all early switches made from Bakelite? I acquired the one in the picture which has scratches and wondered whether they can be polished out or whether it will have to be kept as it is.Click image for larger version

    I have successfully polished many of these, using the same techniques as done on the keys.
    All depends on how bad it is and what results you will be happy with.
    You may try automotive liquid polishing compound and see if that does what you want, it is not abrasive and will get rid of minor scratches.
    Very severe damage may need a light sanding with ultra fine wet/dry sandpaper like 600 grit, then polish with a buffing wheel and rouge.
    Obviously you need to remove the switch before using any type of powered wheel...be careful.

    I saw that there is a guy that has replacement stickers for the top of the switch, but I can's locate a contact right now. If I find it, I will post it.

    In theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.
    In reality, there is.

      Hi Bob thanks for the advice! I will start with the automotive liquid and take it from there. Miraculously the rest of the switch is in good condition as these pictures show;
