  • L143 with a Leslie 351!

I have a L143 hooked to a Leslie 351 and the sound is a definite improvement. I had been using a Leslie 125 with this organ. Question--should the 351's large rotary spin as fast as the horns rotary on the tremolo setting? It seems that the 125's single large rotary spins quite a bit faster than the large rotary on the 351.

I assume you have changed the connector kit in the L143 to the correct one for the 351? Although they both use 6 pin connections, the wiring is different and you will cause some damage, if you haven't already done so. If you are stil using the 351 kit, then stop immediately. Seek advice on how to modify the kit or obtain the correct one.

If you are using the correct kit, then the answer to your question is that the drum rotors in both leslies should spin at the same speed on tremolo.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Thank you, andyg! The L143 has two Leslie kits installed; one for the 125 and another separate one for the 351. Each Leslie has a separate cord and I don't use them at the same time. The motor on the 351's drum rotor may need to be overhauled.

Bear in mind that the ramp up/down times are different because of the weight of the bass rotor being heavier.

Thank you, Drawbar Dave! Everything about the 351 is quite a bit heavier than the 125, particularly the main speaker!

Bass rotor spin up/down time on the 351 should be around 6 seconds, chorale is 48rpm and tremolo around 400rpm. Same as any leslie, really.

You could have issues with bearings, motors, belts, etc but do check to make sure that the slow motor is fully disengaging when you switch to tremolo.
