  • Troubleshooting the manuals for missing tones

    Hi,

I have two missing tones on my A100, one on each manual. This is a 1968 A100 with the foam, so I was expecting the worst when I diassembled the manuals. However the foam was in great shape, but will be removed. Now I was thinking of checking all the connections from the keys to check for any broken wires. Any smart way to do this? I was thinking og soldering wires to all connectors where the existing wires are, connect then together and do a resistance measurement from these wires to each contact. That will take time

I prefer to pass tones through the manuals using a tone generator and a small amp. Its easier to listen than to watch a meter.

Start on tone 13 - first terminal on the preset end and depress the keys which use that tone. If you have the drawbars and matching transformer installed, use the shielded connection that goes to the preamp and send to an amp. Otherwise use a preset and tie the wires from the preset key together sending that to the amp.

The tone method will also have the added benefit of checking for cypher's. A tone chart can be found here : http://www.dairiki.org/hammond/wiring/

    The process goes rather quickly.

Edit: Clean and lube the manual bussbars before the test.

Hi, I did find the missing tone. One of the wires was broken off at the contact. I just resoldered it. I used the tone chart to localise the missing tone.
