  • Troubleshooting A-100 organ (Humming)

I'm having an issue with my organ A-100 when I'm turning it on it makes a noticeable humming noise that can be quite annoying when listening to the word at church & organ is not being played. Didn't notice when we first got the organ.

Hum can be caused by many things and the possibilities must eliminated one at a time. One simple cause of hum is the proximity of AC magnetic fields generated by such things as fluorescent music lamps. Other causes are bad filter capacitors, very likely in an organ of this age, bad tubes, grounding issues, and dirty contacts.

It sounds like the church needs to hire a professional Hammond/Leslie tech.
I'm David. 'Dave' is someone else's name.

Simple things first. Is the Leslie positioned up against the "bass" end of the organ?

I would have to agree with David on this. Too many possibilities that could be the cause. Unless you want to mess with 300+ volts.
I rebuild Hammonds and Leslies. Please visit my website. tbstonewheels.com It's still in the works but is up and running. My personal setup is a Model A # 2203 with Trek II percussion, 122RV and 2 31h's. One is fitted with two speed motors and the other a Hamptone. Also sporting a working Vibratone 30A # 326.
