  • New project organ - E-112

So, a new puppy found me on Saturday. It was an aquaintance of me who sold it, and to be honest I was really mostly interested in the Leslie - a very nice condition 770 - but got the organ for dirt cheap as a package deal I couldn't resist.

The plan is to make this into a bare-bones gig console; discarding everything that I never use to make it as light and simple as possible. So, discarding the harp sustain, the brush/cymbal, all the speakers and possibly the reverb. Taking away most of the perc switches, leaving behind only the same 4 tabs that would be on an M-100 - 2nd, 3rd, short and soft.

Why bother, you ask? Well. I have a tent revival sort of gig this summer; for a week. Last year I brought my BC(3) but the environment was MURDER for it. Very moist air, and every day as I came in to start playing I had to wipe about a half a mm of fine yellow pollen dust off the rig, and it took me a whole day of cleaning to get rid of once I got home. I'd rather use something really cheap (but still full size) in those conditions.

    Gonna be fun, this!

I hope you cover this when it is not in use at the outdoor gig. That will save a lot of cleaning. Good luck.

Of course I used covers last year too, but the fine dust still managed to get in everywhere, especially down in the lower parts. I don't mind this year though, this E-100 will have cost me about a tenth of what I've spent on the B when all is done so it's fine if it gets dirty. Click image for larger version

I have yet to relabel my percussion tabs, but a telecaster switch will fit nicely inside that rail for your Leslie switching, if you're so inclined. I did this for an E-182 I'm fixing up for a ministry here in Atlanta. Switching is via solid state relays, and I'm using the E's amp to drive the Leslie, which is a 222 that had been gutted. I usually put the Leslie switch in the lower left cheekblock on these (plenty of room there, and ergonomically better when playing).

That's fair. I like the idea of everything being a little more localized, but I know muscle memory of the lower left position can be hard to break. What do you use to make that cut on the bakelite cheek blocks?

CHOP? Who's said anything about chopping? I'd never do such a thing, you know that!! ;)

Spent last night rewiring the presets - if I'm going to live with just one set of drawbars per manual, I need a few of my more common registrations on the preset panel!
