  • Hammond L101 Power Amp Smoking from tube socket? Help please.

    Hello!
Recently I have been working on an L101 and I got it working 100%
I added the overdrive modification with the zener diodes connecting between pin 2 on both V9 and V10 (EL84) and it sounded awesome after that. Then cut the C203 cap in the perc preamp to add more keyclick but when I put everything bad together the power amp started to smoke! Bother!!

I removed the overdrive mod to make sure that wasnt the cause and it still smoked. The smoke seems to be coming from the 5U4 rectifier tube.
What could be cause of this and how could I continue from here? I have replaced the 5U4 tube with a new one and it hasnt failed me until last night.
Some research has led me to the OT going bad but Im not sure.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks
    Ayelex

An improperly installed 5U4 (missing guide pin?) will certainly do just that!.Willing to bet the 10 Watt resistor is smoked.

Well the 5U4 was installed properly to my knowledge, the guide pin is there and it installs the same as the previous. Yes the 10W resistor was fried but I replaced it since and it is still not working.
