  • New Organ Day: Free 1967 Hammond H-111

I got myself a doozy for a free Hammond! Since Console Hammond organs are hard to find here in Australia, I had posted several wanted ads for one when a friend of a friend dropped a bombshell that he had a H-111. He also has an M-102 but that wasn't for sale, so he gave me the H. It's not every day that I see a free Hammond. So I called six friends and we moved that heavy console into my house. Here she is sitting proudly near my kitchen. Such a small house but I'm glad I could fit at least two console organs in here. Now to find a guy who knows how to get a 6.3v rail to come back up and to replace the music desk light (it has no bulb!) And she should be good. Can anyone give me some good drawbar settings as well?
You may only view thumbnails in this gallery. This gallery has 2 photos.

The settings you use on the M3 or L112, or the B200 will work just as well on the H. You won't have the same percussion sounds, of course. There is no second or third harmonic. With some thought and careful work, you can get these sounds. The guy who gets the 6v rail up and running should be able to do that for you. https://www.keyboardpartner.de/hammo...ifications.htm

You have two extra drawbars on the upper and one on the lower. These are high pitched mixtures, with a very distinctive sound. Some of the harmonics they contain (two pitches for each of the extra drawbars) will be slightly out of tune, so they're best used with vibrato and/or leslie.

And you have to explore the vibrato system. You can get some leslie-like sounds with the Vibrato Celestes and there is a slow scan equivalent of leslie chorale.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

        Nice score!
Do the percussion and key click mods and you'll have a real screamer into a Marshall stack or a Leslie
        Current:
1971 T-202 with Carsten Meyer mods: Remove key click filters, single-trigger percussion, UM 16' drawbar volume correction. Lower Manual bass foldback.
Korg CX3 (original 1980's analogue model).
1967 Leslie 122 with custom inbuilt preamp on back panel for 1/4" line-level inputs, bass & treble controls. Horn diffusers intact.
2009 Marshall 2061x HW Plexi head into Marshall 4x12 cabinet.

        Former:
        1964 C3
        196x M-102
        197x X5
        197x Leslie 825

Update on the H: Turns out the previous owner did a big no-no and mixed tube types in the power supply. So now I'm possibly up for a transformer and/or power supply replacement. I sadly don't own the M3 anymore, and my B200 is dead. So now I have the H and that L112 on the other side of the country and that T-524. Lovely... I will probably keep this H100 stock because lately I've been into huge theaterish sounds. I've also oiled the tone genny and motor as well as both scanners.

            To elaborate on Nathan's situation:

One of the rectifiers in his PSU has been replaced by a 5U4. Which of course would give him lower B+, but also draw more heater current. Now, the main fault with this organ being "no heater voltage", it was me who suggested that the increased current draw from the 5U4, might have caused the PT to overheat and .. well, die.

Of course this doesn't _have_ to be the case though - it's just something that seemed a bit too conincidental to me.

Other ideas - encouraging ones primarily - are of course welcome ;)

            Current Leslies: 22H, 122, 770

I enjoyed the Hammond church organH262 when I was young. A good friend bought one after her church had purchased the same model. She traded in her old Hammond C2 for it. As mentioned in one of the post on here the Vibrato Celeste was very nice since it added a slow Leslie effect as well as realistic sounding Strings 8' 4' to the manuals. The extra drawbars had their use too. In fact it offered much more for church music than the C2, and C3's I had played. I think you will enjoy this model, and one other Hammond model I enjoyed was the 925. Other than these two models I always preferred other organs for church music.
