  • Storing an L-100 on it's side

Can this be done? I'm currently in a bit of a storage squeeze situation and I could save some space by standing the L-100 chop on it's side. There's obviously no scanner to worry about getting flooded with oil, and it's not due for it's next oiling until I'm out of this situation, so I can't imagine there's enough oil in there to cause any mess right now anyway.

I wonder if it might not be a bad idea to arrange a small cup of some sort under the end of the oil channel. Gravity may cause the oil to drain down out of the felt and drip from the end of the channel (?)

      Hello,
      There is no problem.
But every day it will be necessary to turn it on the other side.

I'd recommend finding a new home for that L. Or gut the room, push it to a back wall and stack everything around it. It's gonna be a mess on it's side and you're not going to flip it everyday. I'd take it in a heartbeat if I wasnt confined to an island.

Hahahaha! Fortunately, this is only a temporary thing, and I'll be moving into a new place in a couple months. I shuffled some things around in my parents' garage and found a spot for it. It was a half-serious question though!

          Hello,

The vertical position is the one I use to oil bearings with a syringe.

Capilarity forces that allow the oil to go up in the threads and in the felt are much stronger than gravity.

In my opinion there will be no problem. But i think you had better to avoid playing the organ when it is in this position.

I agree with JP. Storing it vertically won't hurt a thing. Just don't flip it on end within the first 24 hours of a generous oiling, or you'll have an oil stain on the floor.
