I was told to connect a 0.1uF@600v capacitor "across" the motor coil to absorb the voltage spike. Can any body tell me what the term "across" means? does it meanto short out with the cap or what? I already tried wiring in line (A.C.) using the cap as a lead but power dose'nt seem to go through the cap. I.e. if you test the cap with a muititester, it makes no continuity. Is the outside case of the motor a ground?

Re: popping in leslie
Can you be a little more specific with your question? For starters, what kind of Leslie do you have? To eliminate the pop when you switch speeds, you should put the cap across the speed switch contacts. I have never heard of putting the cap across the motor. I doubt it will do much of anything.

It's a modded 120 with no amp, all gutted with no pins etc.So in theory I'm needing to learn what is going on with the noise. does the cap work across two hots or onehot to somthing else.(like a ground) thanks for your response.

Re: popping in leslie
well it sounds like I might have solved my problem with the lesliepopping! And yes, the cap goes between the two hots of each speed. For assurance I might install several more in other areasjust to build confidence. I've had this problem for over 10 yrs,,,whew! thanks for your responses
